Medical & Biohazardous Waste Disposal in Virginia State
Virginia is where it all started for the United States, after 104 English settlers came ashore in 1607. When the settlers disembarked, they called the land Jamestown, after King James I of England. Often called ‘the birthplace of a nation,’ Virginia was the first piece of North America to be settled by the English.
Jamestown went on to become the first of the 13 colonies that would eventually come together to form what we now call the United States of America. The Jamestown colony was founded with one purpose: to cultivate silk, and trade it back to England. However, this never occured, as the silk worms food source, mulberry trees, were destroyed by fungus. To try and recoup the losses, tobacco was planted in place of the mulberry trees. The colony didn’t hold any lofty expectations for the cash crop, but due to the expansive fields and fresh soil, it grew strong and eventually the tobacco business turned profitable. In 1614, the first shipment of Virginia tobacco was sold in London. From there, the tobacco industry exploded. In 1619, the Jamestown colony had exported 10 tons of tobacco to Europe, and by 1639 they had exported 750 tons.
Virginia is also the birthplace of America’s first president, George Washington, who was born in Westmoreland County in 1732. He went on to become a commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, during the American Revolutionary War. The James River in Richmond was a key passage during the Civil War and is still an important waterway today. Virginia also has a rich military history, and is also home to the Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon and the US Navy’s Atlantic Fleet. Newport News also is home to the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, The Enterprise. The largest naval base in the world can be found here too - Naval Station Norfolk, just around the corner from the famous Chespeake Bay.

Within oncology, our Chemosmart container is able to be positioned at the point-of-care in Infusion bays with easy mobility to transition between care environments. Our solutions are clinically engineered, to minimize cross-contamination and are designed with a myriad of security features to prevent tampering or unauthorized retrieval of waste (particularly important for the disposal of pharmaceuticals and controlled medications).
