Wisconsin or America’s ‘Dairyland’ takes its milk and cheese seriously, as home to more dairy cows than any other state in America. Wisconsin is an indigenous word, from the Native American Chippewa language, translating to “grassy place” in English. An appropriate namesake, given Wisconsin is famous for its lush green pastures and undulating hills, both of which make it perfect country for grazing dairy cows.
There are more than 1.3 million dairy cows in the state, spread across 9,000 farms, most of which are family owned and operated. Wisconsin Infectious Waste Regulations
According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, infectious waste is waste that can pass on infectious diseases to humans or animals via sharps (including hypodermic needles, syringes and lancets), blood or human tissue. Medical waste is infectious waste as well as any non-infectious waste that may be commingled.

In s. 287.07(7)(c)1.c., Wis. Stats., Infectious waste means solid waste that contains pathogens with sufficient virulence and in sufficient quantity that exposure of a susceptible human or animal to the solid waste could cause the human or animal to contract an infectious disease.

In s. 299.51(1)(b), Wis. Stats., Medical waste means infectious waste, as defined above, and other waste that contains or may be mixed with infectious waste.
It is noted in the departmental outline, that medical waste does not include all of the waste produced within a healthcare setting. Non-infectious materials from a healthcare facility are considered to be "medical waste" only if the generator mixes them with infectious waste or manages them as though they are infectious waste. Any other waste materials from a healthcare facility are not considered "medical waste" under Wisconsin law. If possible, these non-infectious items should be reused or recycled.
