Help tackle the persistent issue of Sharps Injuries

In April of 2018, we brought together 3 renowned experts to speak to healthcare workers, leaders and educators about the issue of Sharps Injuries.

Over 320,000 needlestick injuries are incurred by US healthcare workers every year. This is a trend that in 16 years has only gone down by 11% despite incredible innovation in safety engineered devices. Quite simply, the current sharps risk exposure to healthcare workers is Not OK. We were honored to host three events in three cities to bring needlestick injuries back into the clinical spotlight. Bringing to the stage speakers who have dedicated their lives to the furtherance of needlestick injury prevention and improved healthcare worker safety, we were greatly moved by the personal reflections, subject-matter expertise, and conversations that happened during our time together… thank you for all who joined us and participated in bringing focus back to the prevention of needlestick injuries.

Our favorite moments captured

The It’s not OK event in Chicago was filmed and we are excited to share with you a little highlight reel that shows some of our favorite moments that were captured of our speakers, guests and leaders during the April 2018 event.

Our Take Aways…

01. KAREN DALEY
Who is caring for the carers? Vicarious trauma is very real, we need stronger strategies in place to support healthcare workers that have been inflicted with a needlestick injury and remove the stigma of individual blame.

02. TERRY GRIMMOND
It is an OSHA standard that healthcare facilities evaluate every year whether there are safer devices in the market: sharps injuries are attributed to many factors, but one of the clear preventable strategies is the implementation of safer sharps containers and safety engineered devices.

03. MARY OGG
Product evaluation and selection must be a process shared by clinical staff if it’s going to gain strong widespread adoption. Once implemented, availability of less safe alternatives must be eliminated from the hospital environment.
