Florida Medical Waste Management | Medical & Biohazardous Waste Disposal
Affectionately called The Sunshine State, Florida has the second largest stretch of coastline of any state in America. Florida’s coastline stretches 1350 miles bordering both the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean, making it the second largest coastline of any state in the country, after Alaska. However, it’s not just the incredible beaches and coastal lifestyle Floridians and tourists love about the sunny state.
Florida is also home to the Disney World Resort in Orlando, where children and adults can mingle with their favorite film and cartoon idols. Situated on over 30,500 acres, Disney World is almost the same size as San Francisco and is neighbored by other famous attractions including SeaWorld and Universal Studios. Miami is one of the busiest cruise cities in the world! The state also grows a substantial amount of oranges. Florida oranges are renowned for their freshness, color and flavor, and are used in the production of more than 60% of America’s orange juice products.
Something you might not know Florida is renowned for, is the quality of its hospitals and medical facilities. The state is host to Florida Hospital, Tampa General Hospital and the Mayo Clinic Florida, which are all recognized as leading American medical establishments. There are a total of 42,000 facilities in Florida that generate medical and biohazard waste, including clinics, nursing homes, laboratories, funeral homes, pharmacies, veterinarians and dentists. This is really where we come in...

Florida-based Biohazardous Waste Regulations
The disposal of red bag and biohazard waste in the state of Florida is governed by both the Florida Department of Environmental Protection or (FDEP) and the Department of Health. The FDEP is primarily responsible for the incineration and final disposal of biomedical waste, whilst the Department of Health is focused on regulating the facilities that generate, transport, store or treat biomedical waste through processes other than incineration. Under Florida’s regulations, storage of biomedical waste at the generating facility must not exceed 30 days. This 30-day-period begins as soon as the first non-sharps item of biomedical waste is placed into a red bag or sharps container, or when a sharp container that contains only sharps is closed and sealed. It is also mandatory in Florida for all biomedical waste facilities, except those operating under a DEP permit, to obtain an annual permit. Learn more about Florida regulations here:

A Local Partner in Florida
One of the bigger trends in the medical waste disposal space is the use of third-party waste haulers. You sign up with a company, and they sound great! And then they pass you on to someone else... you've just found out that you signed up with a broker that has no investment in service quality, adequate insurances to meet compliance risk or ability to resolve a bin or service issue in a timely manner. We are not that company! We are locals, and it is our drivers and our service team that you will meet from day one. With all container processing and treatment taking place at our site in Orlando, we ensure your red bag biohazard waste is treated within state borders and in accordance with local regulations - eliminating risk of infectious exposure for our customers.
We are a trusted hazardous waste management solution provider for the Florida state, and have the experience necessary to ensure that your facility complies with Florida’s rigorous and complex regulations.
